Getting acquainted with Grenada

To get us started, let's take a quick look at the Island and it's population.

The population of Grenada (2001) is about 102,632. 38% or 39,000 live in urban areas. In the last 20 years there has been a small shift of people from the rural to the urban areas. An urban area is a population agglomeration of 1000 to 10,000 inhabitants. An individual lives in a rural area if he lives outside the limits of an urban area. The national capital, St. George’s, urban area has about 3,908 people, with the remainder of the parish population scattered in the parish rural area. The island is divided into 6 parishes, with the smaller island of Carriacou forming a 7th parish.
